Yesterday we ran JazzCode Live in Boston for an internal event for the leading global management consulting firm. Incredible players - Bruno Raberg (b), Rebecca Cline (p) and Phil Grenadier (trp) and a wonderful audience. They had asked me spesifically to talk about how we build relationships under pressure, and to explain the JazzCode model which explains how to create presence and good listening by helping others feel safe, help them simplify, help them with their skills and help motivate them through listening to them. This was also the theme for the breakouts we had following the performance.
I received a message from one of the attendees which I reproduce here with her permission:
Dear Carl-
Your Jazz Code presentation was like
nothing I'd ever seen and of a piece with everything I know about you.
The presentation was solid, far-reaching, full of subtle surprises,
and gave me much to take away - which is exactly what I would expect
from you and your rich, varied background and your particular creative
intelligence. I love the idea of listening to improvised music while
the "messages" run on the screen, calling our attention to the
different ways in which to listen, make sense of what's going on and
how to apply it elsewhere. As someone in a family of classical
musicians, I also appreciated the comparisons between a jazz quartet
and a symphony orchestra, between improvisation and working from a
script, and everything that flows from those two settings.
Thank you again.
Elizabeth Benedict
